YOUNGSTERS from six schools asked the ‘Big Questions’ in a special Religious Education Celebration Day.

Somerset’s Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education, which is coordinated by Somerset County Council, hosted the event at Creech St Michael Baptist Church.

Primary and secondary pupils explored and presented on various topics, linking to the locally-agreed RE school syllabus themes of ‘awareness, mystery and value’.

The schools that took part at the event on Monday of last week were West Monkton, Bishops Lydeard, Creech St Michael, Combe St Nicholas and Bishop’s Hull primaries and Heathfield Community Secondary School.

Children were presented with certificates and thanks.

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for children and families, said: “This will be a stirring, thought-provoking day for these primary and secondary school pupils here in Somerset.

“This special event will give young people an important space to think about, share and discuss big topics which are important to us all, whatever our age or our beliefs.”
