THE great Burnham bake off is set to return this autumn for another delicious competition.

Both home and professional bakers are invited to enter the competition on Saturday, October 31 as part of the town’s food festival.

Judges will be looking for short crust sausages rolls, Bakewell tarts, carrot cakes and bread, as well as Christmas cake in the professional category.

In a new twist, bakers will this time be invited to sample other bakers entries after the judging has taken place.

Festival organiser Bev Milner Simonds said: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has been a popular competition at the last six food and drink festivals, this time we are not only looking for the best cakes, but also bread and a Christmas Cake from our professional bakers.”

Fellow organiser Sarah Milner Simonds added: “The Technical Challenge last time was searching for meringues, this time we want three matching shortcuts sausage rolls.

“We are embracing the harvest time with a search for carrot cake and Christmas cakes.

“We are also asking bakers if they are happy to share their bakes with the other bakers.”

People who want to take part in the bake off competition need to download an entry form and the rules from the festival website www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org Debbie March, of Retreat Caravan Park, which sponsors the event, said: “The great Burnham bake off has become an big part of the local calendar and we are very proud sponsor it."

“I am champion of young bakers and I am delighted to raise their profile with this competition at the bake off.”
