AS per reports, Burnham-on-Sea's postponed firework display will not be re-arranged, the town council has now confirmed in a statement.

On Thursday December 14, a spokesperson for Burnham and Highbridge Town Council said: "Following a meeting of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council, it has been decided that the fireworks display postponed from Sunday, November 5 will not be re-scheduled this year due to financial pressures faced by the council."

"The council understands there may be some disappointment that the event has been cancelled, but thank residents for their understanding."

The decision was made when the town council congregated on Tuesday, December 12 to discuss a number of local matters, including re-scheduling the display, which was postponed out of respect for the missing Peter Jeffrey.

According to the meeting agenda, Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council have incurred costs of £5,358 due to the postponed event.

A breakdown of the costs required to re-schedule the display shows a total of £7,113 needed to do so.

Due to the incurred costs from the postponed event, there is only £2,691.60 left in the Carnival Events Week budget.

The agenda shows a recommendation that the council approve additional expenditure from other budgets, but (as previously stated) this was decided against at the meeting itself.
