AVON and Somerset Police attended the scene of a multi vehicle collision in Highbridge yesterday (Tuesday, December 19), which saw a main road shut for seven hours.

Both the fire and ambulance services were also present at the crash involving three vehicles, including a lorry, on Bridgwater Road near East Brent.

The initial report was made at just after 5pm, and the road did not re-open until past midnight.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called shortly after 5pm yesterday (19 December) to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Bridgwater Road, near East Brent.

"Police attended, alongside the ambulance service and fire service.

"The road was closed to allow the vehicles to be recovered.

"It reopened just after midnight."

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Bridgwater and Cheddar attended a road traffic collision involving two cars and an articulated lorry on Bridgwater Road, East Brent, Somerset at 17.09 on 19 December.

"Across the three vehicles there were eight occupants in total and three were checked over at the scene by ambulance crews for minor injuries.

"Our crews remained on scene to provide lighting and liaise with police to ensure the scene was made safe."
