Bakkavor has an opening for a new apprentice at its Highbridge site.

The fresh food provider announced its search for more promising talent to join its award-winning apprenticeship programme to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

It comes as the company nearly doubled its apprenticeship roles since 2021.

The company's 2024 apprenticeship intake represents a record high for them, going from 44 roles in 2021 to 86 in 2022.

In Highbridge the successful candidate will take on the advanced engineer / level 3 food and drink maintenance engineer role.

As well as the position in Somerset, there will also be apprenticeship opportunities at Bakkavor's Wiltshire location.

The apprenticeship programme at Bakkavor delivers real responsibility from day one.

It not only allows for the apprentice to contribute to vital business activities and projects but also enables them to simultaneously study towards gaining an nationally recognised qualification.

Donna-Maria Lee, chief people officer at Bakkavor, said: "As the UK’s leading provider of fresh prepared food, we aim to attract and develop the best talent in our sector and our Apprenticeship Programme offers a broad range of opportunities for people interested in starting a career in a fast-moving and dynamic business.

"Over the last decade, many of our apprentices have gone on to have varied and interesting long-term careers with us.

"As a community-based business, we are delighted to be extending apprenticeship opportunities across our sites, allowing us to create career opportunities for people.

"This year will be our biggest apprenticeship programme in a decade; we have seen its value to our business, and we are delighted to create further opportunities for people in the communities in which we operate."

Applications for Bakkavor’s 2024 apprenticeships open on February 5.
