SOMERSET has been subjected to torrential downpour since early Thursday morning, prompting several flood warnings and alerts to be issued by the Environment Agency.

The Burnham and Highbridge areas are among those under a flood alert, meaning flooding is possible.

River levels on the River Brue and the River Sheppey have risen since the downpour began yesterday, and will remain high into Friday.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "The continued flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible and will remain a risk into Friday."

The county has been place under a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office since 2am on Thursday, February 8, and the rain has only continued to pour down into Friday morning.

Officially, the Met Office warning period ended at 6am today, but a torrent of flood warnings and alerts issued late into last night state showers are still expected throughout the morning.

As many rivers look set to burst their banks after over 24 hours of heavy rain, here are all of the flood warnings and in affect across Somerset this morning.
