THE Environment Agency has upgraded its earlier 'alert' to a 'warning' as flooding is now expected in areas near to Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge.
River levels on the River Brue at Lovington due to the recent rainfall continued to rise this morning, and flooding is expected to remain a risk into this afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Brue, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around roads in Catsham, Cowbridge, and West Lydford and the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare road.
"Properties on Dyehouse Lane, Glastonbury at risk from the Glastonbury Millstream and overtopping forecast at Baltonsborough.
"Further light rainfall is forecast this afternoon."
Residents in the affected area are advised to 'act now' by considering activating any property flood protection products they may have, avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, and do not attempt to walk, cycle or drive through flood water.
The Environment Agency states the warning encompasses the following areas: Tootle Bridge, Catsham, Church Moor at Baltonsborough, Street Drove, the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare road, Westhay Bridge, and Tadham Moor.
