A BURNHAM driver who broke a temporary speed limit by 21mph has been fined.

Andrew McGealy, of Berrow Road, was caught driving at 71mph on a stretch of the M4 in South Gloucestershire that had a temporary 50mph speed limit.

The 28-year-old committed the offence on July 23, 2023, when a maximum speed restriction had been enforced by South Gloucestershire Council.

McGealy was driving eastbound between junctions 20 (Almondsbury Interchange) and 19 (Hambrook Interchange) at the time of the offence.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure and was sentenced by a magistrate in Bath on Monday, February 26.

McGealy has been fined £293 and told to pay a £117 surcharge to fund victim services and court costs of £90.

He has until April 22 to pay his £500 court bill. Four penalty points were added to his licence.

His guilty plea was taken into account when he was sentenced.
