POLICE have arrested the driver of a car which overturned in Burnham-on-Sea on Tuesday, April 30.

The man, aged 33, was hospitalised after crashing into a lamppost on South Esplanade on Tuesday evening.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, although he has since been released under investigation.

The lamppost has been fenced off by Western Power, and remains tilted at an angle as a result of the force of the collision.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 11.21pm on Tuesday (April 30) to South Esplanade, Burnham-on-Sea to a report that a red Ford Fiesta had overturned and collided with a lamppost.

"A man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later discharged.

"A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He has since been released under investigation.
