SECRET World Wildlife Rescue is celebrating summer with an all-day party on bank holiday Monday.

On 29 August, families can enjoy a day of activities, games and good food as well as exploring the site of this much-loved wildlife rescue charity in East Huntspill, near Highbridge.

The charity’s chief executive David Foulds said: “We’ve just started opening daily to the public for the first time in over fifteen years.

"It’s been wonderful welcoming people in to see our resident animals and displays. We want to celebrate – so we’re holding the Secret World Summer Party!

“This will be the last chance for summer visitors to the South West to enjoy a Secret World event before heading home to get ready for the next school term. We’re looking forward to a fun day, and of course to raising some much-needed funds for our work to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife.

“We’ll continue to be open daily for visitors beyond this event and into the autumn.”

The Secret World Summer Party is on from 10am to 4pm on Monday, August 29. Entry and parking is free but all donations will go to support the rescue, rehabilitation and release of wildlife.

It has been a busy few weeks for Secret World, as more than 600 visitors enjoyed a Wild and Deadly Wednesday in the latest in a series of such events this summer.

Children had the chance to meet huge snakes as well as tarantulas, scorpions, lizards and giant millipedes at the creepy crawly event.

Presenter Nick Wadham entertained the crowd with fun facts and stories about the fascinating creatures, and some brave parents also had a go at handling them.

Families can enjoy the next Wild and Deadly Wednesday, August 31 from 10am to 4pm. Entry is £4 per adult, £2 per child.
