Watchet 3, Berrow 0

BERROW’S early season struggles continue after they were beaten by Watchet on Saturday.

In what is always a tough away encounter, two early goals had all but put the game to bed by half-time, but Watchet added a third after the break to condemn Berrow to a seventh straight defeat.

Once more, Watchet had the boost of taking an early lead when the visiting defence did not deal with a cross from the left and when the ball dropped, Dominic Richards lashed a left foot volley into the bottom corner of the net from 15 yards.

Play evened out with Berrow getting the ball in the home net, only for danger man Taylor to be ruled offside – and they sent another chance off-target before Watchet threatened again.

Aerron Clausen’s angled pass picked out Zac Ryder in a good position inside the box, but the striker’s shot went into the side netting and then Clausen shot too high from just outside the area after Richards, Ryder and Brandon Walsh had worked the ball in from the right.

With the visitors still looking lively, Watchet needed a second goal and it arrived when Chris Sully threaded a pass in to Ryder in the danger zone and this time he poked a cool finish beyond the keeper’s reach.

The half-time advantage might have been greater as centre back Jamie Milton took time off from a strong defensive showing to drive a reasonable opening just over following a corner; and he missed the target again soon afterwards with a free header from Sully’s free kick.

In a mundane opening to the second half, a visiting goal might have changed things, but Watchet again defended strongly and Adam Bishop was not seriously extended.

The Red and Blacks were struggling to find their earlier attacking fluency, however they made it 3-0 just past the midway point and sealed the victory.
