Burnham 136 lost to Kilve 146 by ten runs

SIX wickets from Mike Green weren’t enough to prevent Burnham from slipping to a ten-run defeat at the hands of Kilve on Saturday.

Green starred with the ball for the second successive week to return figures of 6-28 and help dismiss Kilve for 146 inside 43 overs.

But the Burnham reply collapsed in a heap, despite the best efforts of D. Worthington (47) who fell three runs short of a half-century.

J. Harding (23) and Rob Driver (21) both got starts, but they were the only other players to make it into double figures, as G. Stone (3-33), C. Clemenson (2-30) and J. Calder (2-18) secured a narrow win for the visitors.

Stone took the final Burnham wicket, dismissing Brian Brogden for one in the 42nd over, with the home side 11 runs short of victory.

Earlier, W. Monro (50no) was the mainstay of the Kilve innings and P. Stone (28) chipped in at the top of the order – but Green was in scintillating form once again, blowing the away the Kilve line-up with another impressive spell.

At the other end, Rob Driver (2-16) took two wickets of his own and conceded just 16 runs from 12 overs, including six maidens, while Ed Booth (1-38) was also in the wickets.

It was Monro’s unbeaten half-century that proved to be the match-winner for Kilve, while Burnham will reflect on a disappointing display with the bat. Burnham travel to Huish and Langport on Saturday.
