Burnham 55-5 beat Huish and Langport 53 by five wickets

BURNHAM stormed to a resounding five-wicket victory over Huish and Langport on Saturday after a dominant bowling display saw them skittle their opponents for just 53.

Stuart Green took 5-31 for Burnham to blow away the Huish top-order, while Brian Brogden (2-0) chipped in with two wickets in just eight balls.

Rob Driver led the reply with an unbeaten 23 as Burnham eased to victory despite the loss of five cheap wickets.

Bowling first, Burnham made early inroads, with Green dismissing M Skeet (6), C Foster (5) and C Haggett (0) for single figures.

T Crocker (12) and T Hawkins (11) were the only two Huish batsman to make it into double figures, as Green, in partnership with Ed Booth (1-15) and Brogden ransacked the scorecard.

D Shillabeer (0), R Haggett (1) and A Foyne (4) were the next to go, before Brogden wrapped things up with the wicket of Chapman (1).

In reply, Burnham lost Harris (0) and Worthington (6) with less than ten on the board, but Driver’s arrival at the crease steadied the ship.

Birkett’s stay was a brief one as he departed for just two and Jim Bloodworth (2) followed shortly after.

The Burnham innings lacked fluency, but chasing a low target, there was little need for urgency.

Ed Booth (12) edged Burnham closer to victory, before Driver (23no) saw his side home in the 26th over.

D Shillabeer (3-31) was the pick of the Huish and Langport bowlers.

Burnham host Wells on Saturday.
