Somerset Premier/First Division Cup

Street Res 1 Berrow 2

BERROW put their name in the hat for the next round of the cup with a hard fought win at Street on a cold afternoon.

Berrow started brightly keeping possession and creating a couple of openings, but went 1-0 behind against the run of play with a header from a corner.

Berrow then had a shaky ten minutes but sorted themselves out before half time where they gained control of the game again creating chances but were still behind at the interval.

Berrow picked up where they left off, keeping possession and creating chances but still to no avail.

Their patient attacking play was rewarded after 65 minutes, when Jamie Merrick steamed through a couple of challenges in the box to smash the ball home for his first goal for the club.

Berrow gained momentum from this and ten minutes later should have been in front, but the street goalkeeper made a couple of phenomenal saves with the goal gaping to leave Dan Rosser wondering how he didn't give Berrow the lead.

In the 80th minute man of the match Ben Robertson scored the winner, his initial header blocked but he showed great composure and smashing the ball into the net with a carbon copy of the first goal.

Berrow held on but were made to sweat when street had a free kick in a dangerous area with the last kick of the game, but Ashley Harrison, returning to the starting line-up, showed great hands to wrap a up a solid individual performance.

Manager Dave Keirle said: "We battled for that today, and it makes your Saturday a whole lot better when you win.

"This is realistically the only competition we can win so it's great to be in the next round and whoever we face, we know we can beat anyone on our day."
