Wells and Horrington CC 212 / 6 (43.2) def. Burnham-on-Sea CC 210 / 9 (45)

BURNHAM-on-Sea Cricket Club suffered a four-wicket defeat at the weekend away from home against Wells and Horrington CC.

The result leaves Burnham in sixth place in the Somerset Cricket Leagues Division One.

It was a close battle between two strong sides that did come down to the wire in truth as the home side scored the winning runs with just over one over remaining.

After winning the toss, Wells chose to field first and the visitors went on to set the target at 210 runs for 9 after the given 45 overs.

The opening pair for Burnham got off to a flying start in truth as they built a strong partnership.

Bradley House scored a half century of 53 runs whil Fred Berry scored 36 to kick off the innings strongly.

Both were clean bowled by Matthew Williams, but the strong start continued with Rob Driver adding another 31 runs batting at three.

From there though the wickets began to fall regularly quickly as Wells' bowlers grew into the match.

Connor Lefrere finished on 25 runs not out to push the target that bit higher but around him wickets were lost cheaply.

Matthew Williams and Vince Johnson dominated the bowling figures with three and four wickets respectively.

In reply, Wells chased down the target with 10 balls to spare.

The home side were helped by opening batter Jack Moore's 75 runs and some strong performances down the order as well.

Burnham's bowling attack did restrict the run rate at times but over the course of the innings, Wells did enough to keep pace.

Pete Dickens (42 runs) and Alex Lane-Sellers (32 not out) helped get Wells over the line.

Josh Langer took two wickets for 25 runs for Burnham while Peter Harris, Matt Dibble and Connor Lefrere all had one a piece.

All in all a valiant effort from Burnham but in the end not enough to make the trip back home with a win.
