BURNHAM United Sunday team have won the Bridgwater Sunday Football League Cup Final.

They were victorious 3-2 over Bridgwater Wolves in the final on Sunday and were three goals up at one point in the match.

Brynn Pearce opened the scoring for Burnham, and Jaymie Whitehouse picked up the second and third goals to give them a strong lead.

The Wolves fought back and managed to bring the game close once more but it wasn't enough.

A spokesperson from Burnham United said: "Going 3-0 up the final seemed all but tied up. That was until Bridgwater Wolves mounted a come back.

"We dug deep and held on to the lead to bring the cup home. Well done lads!"

Elsewhere, the Burnham United first team lost 4-0 away against Ilminster Town in the Somerset Senior Cup.

In a devastating opening the Blues raced into a 3-0 lead that effectively killed this Somerset Senior first round Cup tie in the opening twenty minutes.

After this the match was more even with Ilminster adding a second half goal to run out 4-0 winners.

Burnham who play one League below Ilminster in Division One of the Somerset County League did rally and slowly came back into the match.

They should have scored with a couple of good chances, on the half hour mark but their striker missed the target after a cut back left him in a good position.
