Uhlsport League Cup: Watchet Town 1-0 Burnham United

BURNHAM United have been knocked out of the Uhlsport Premier and First Division League Cup.

Away from home, Burnham took on Watchet Town and went down 1-0 in a very close match.

Both sides played this match with a defensive focus and that created a tense feel to the match.

However a well worked goal from Watchet Town's Aaron Deeks around 20 minutes in was the decider in the cup match.

The second half remained scoreless due to this and large parts of the half were played in the middle third of the pitch.

Burnham were unable to break down their defence to get an equaliser and the match finished 1-0 to Watchet.

Mike Stevens was awarded player of the match for Burnham after his spirited performance in defence for the away side.

A spokesperson from Burnham United said: "Time to get down to some solid training in the week and focus on the league next weekend."

Up next for Burnham is a return to league action and a return home next Saturday as Stockwood Green come to town.

That match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, September 23 and it will be a match Burnham will be hoping to win as Stockwood Green are without a win in their opening four league matches.

Burnham United sit in seventh place in the Uhlsport Somerset Division One with two wins and two defeats so far.
