Regional 2 Tribute South West: Topsham 64-22 Burnham-on-Sea

BURNHAM-on-Sea RFC were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat at the weekend away from home against Topsham RFC.

In the match in the Regional 2 Tribute South West, Topsham came out on top 64 points to 22.

It was always going to be a challenging match against the inform Topsham side however Burnham will be disappointed with the scoreline.

It also now means the Stags sit bottom of the league table after nine games played.

The was a debut for young Burnham back Kalann Nessling off the bench.

In the match, the game got off to the best start possible taking a seven point lead from a well worked converted try early on.

However Topsham cancelled that out soon after. You would think from there the hosts ran in try after try however it was Burnham who retook the lead with a second converted try.

But from this second try, Topsham snapped into action and began to take control of proceedings.

In total, the hosts ran in nine unanswered tries before Burnham pulled one back right at the death.

Before half time though Topsham took the score to 33-17 and they were well on top at the break.

In the second period it was more of the same for Topsham as they were creating plenty of attacking plays that could and sometimes did result in a try.

Burnham were defending as tightly as possible but the ball movement from Topsham was superior and they ran in more tries.

To the visiting side's credit, right before full time Burnham scored the final try of the match to leave with some pride showing they didn't give up the fight.

In the end it was a well deserved win for the Devon based side as Burnham made the long journey home with a defeat.

Elsewhere, the Burnham-on-Sea RFC Seconds defeated Wiveliscombe RFC Seconds 20-10 in their Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South match at home.

Before kick off, both sets of players lined up to undertake a minutes silence to honour those who have served for Remembrance Weekend.

Max Grandfield opened the scoring with a try out wide for Burnham before Felix Grandfield scored the second.

In the second half Matt Dyson and Tim James both scored for Burnham to take their total to 20 points.

Wiveliscombe tried to pull it back but were only able to manage one try for themselves in the match.
