Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South: Burnham-on-Sea II 27-3 North Petherton II

BURNHAM-on-Sea RFC Seconds picked up a big win at home at the weekend against North Petherton Seconds.

The match in the Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South ended 27-3 in favour of Burnham as they were dominant from start to finish.

The result sees them remain on the bottom of the league table but it was their best performance of the season to date.

Elsewhere the Burnham first team saw their match against Chard RFC postponed due to a water logged pitch.

In the match day squad there was a return for Matt Dyson at 9 and he was hoping to kick on with his ever impressive performances for the seconds.

Tim James joined the side as well and brought a lot of experience and leadership off the bench to the young squad, whilst Thomas Gill anchored the scrum at tighthead.

There was also a return of Mason Shaw fresh off another important boxing match for him and he put in a strong showing.

Despite winning the game comfortably, it was in fact North Petherton who started the brighter of the two sides.

After a period of sustained pressure, the visitors took the lead through a penalty conversion 15 minutes into the match.

However that would be their last score as Burnham took back control of the match and didn't let it go.

Directly from the restart at 0-3 down, the Stags put Petherton under pressure and Sam Wells collected the ball and put in a powering run from 10 metres out to score his first club try to make it 5-3.

Soon after that try, the away side was shown a yellow card after a blatant shoulder charge and with the man advantage Burnham were well in control now.

In the 25th minute, Burnham were moving the ball around the park and after a good offload, the ball found Big Tom at number 10 who scored a top try. It was converted to make it 12-3.

The points kept coming before half time too as a poor throw in from Pethy on there 5 metre line landed in the hands of Ed Lewis who flopped over to score and it was 17-3.

In the second half it was more of the same as Burnham were all over North Petherton.

A well worked set piece play saw Felix Grandfield sprint over to score to take the score to 22-3.

And the final score came when a tap penalty down the line found Mason Shaw  who unselfishly popped the ball to Grandfield who scored his second of the afternoon.

That wrapped up an impressive win with the final score at 27-3.

Up next for the Burnham seconds is an away trip to Chard RFC Seconds on Saturday, December 16.

For the Burnham RFC first team, they host Crediton RFC on the same day at the BASC Ground.
