Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South: Burnham-on-Sea II 34-0 Crewkerne

BURNHAM-on-Sea RFC Seconds earned an emphatic win at home at the weekend over Crewkerne RFC.

The Stags were strong from start to finish in the match in the Counties Three Tribute Somerset South and won 34-0.

From start to finish the Burnham side were in control and impressed a strong crowd at the BASC Ground.

Despite the win, they remain bottom of the league table but with this performance, if they can carry it on into the rest of the season, there is potential they avoid the drop.

In the match, Martyn Keep opened the scoring with a try out wide on seven minutes and Jaymie Whitehouse slots the conversion for 7-0.

Shortly after, Tom Linnel kicked the ball deep into the Crewkerne 22 and Keep collected the loose ball and sprinted in to score his second to make it 12-0.

Crewkerne began to get frustrated and were reduced to 14 when one of their players was shown a yellow card.

In the second half, Burnham kept up the momentum and crossed for a third try through Conor Howard this time, with Whytehouse converting for 19-0.

And the points kept coming as Jordan Cooper powered through the struggling defensive line of the visitors and the long arm stretched over the whitewash to score the bonus point try.

At 24 up, Burnham were looking good but they didn't take their foot off the gas as there was two more tries before full time.

Chris Warner scored the first of those two after a well worked play ended with him in the right spot at the right time.

And the final score came from Felix Grandfield as he weaved his way through the back line and he jumped with joy as he scored to a roaring crowd.

It was converted and that brought the final score to 34-0 and sealed a very impressive win and performance from the Seconds.

The Burnham-on-Sea RFC Firsts were without a game at the weekend and used the week off to rest legs ahead of the final push of the season.

A special shout out was given to last week's man of the match, debutant, Jaymie Whitehouse.

A spokesperson from the club said: "On his 1st team home debut Jaymie scored his first of no doubt many tries along with an absolute terrier in defence."
